Download this cooperative barrier game to teach your students vocabulary and communication skills using the structure Match Mine. Each partner receives a game board with beat-boxes and rhythm notation game pieces to place on the game board. Partners sit on opposite sides of a barrier so they can’t see each other’s game board or game pieces. Partner A arranges the rhythm notation game pieces on each box of the game board. Then Partner A describes to Partner B which rhythm notation piece goes on box by performing the pattern so they can make a match. When they think they have a match, they compare arrangements and celebrate. This set teaches common rhythm notation vocabulary such as: 6/8 meter, rhythm pattern, note, etc. Match Mine is a fun and cooperative way to develop language, communication, cooperation, and perspective-taking skills.
Students learn music vocabulary and concepts with these cooperative games. To play, students sit on opposite sides of a barrier. In the game, "It's Instrumental," one partner places his instrument game pieces on the game board. Next, he must describe how he arranged his instruments on the game board so his partner can "match" the layout. For example, "Place the cello under the tuba, next to the saxophone." As students make a match, they get exposure to and practice with music vocabulary. Each game focuses on different music vocabulary and concepts. Book includes 30 games in all. 176 pages.
