Every student in class receives one card with a word that has an antonym. Students play Quiz-Quiz-Trade with their cards. The quizzing looks like this: Students put a hand up and find a partner. In the pair, one partner has the hot card and asks, “What is an antonym for ‘hot?’” The other partner responds. Then they quiz the other way. The other partner has a card with a different word. He asks, “What is an antonym for the word ‘ugly?’” His partner responds. Students trade cards and find a new partner to quiz. After many rounds of pairing and quizzing, the teacher asks students to hurry and find their partner with their matching card. The repeated quizzing with multiple classmates makes the content super memorable. Your students have so much fun that they barely realize they’re learning!
