Compound Words

$3.00
Students play an interactive quizzing game to learn about compound words. This set includes matching cards. For example, one card reads, “door + bell.” The matching card gives the compound word formed by combining those two words, doorbell. Every student in class receives one card with either the components of a compound word or a compound word. Students play Quiz-Quiz-Trade with their cards. The quizzing looks like this: Students put a hand up and find a partner. In the pair, one partner has the doorbell card and asks, “What two words is ‘doorbell’ made of?” The other partner responds. Then they quiz the other way. The other partner has a card with the components that make a compound word. He asks, “What compound word do ‘home’ and ‘work’ make?” His partner responds. Students trade cards and find a new partner to quiz. After many rounds of pairing and quizzing, the teacher asks students to hurry and find their partner with their matching card. The repeated quizzing with multiple classmates makes the content super memorable. Your students have so much fun that they barely realize they’re learning!
