Students play an interactive quizzing game to learn about connecting symbolic and concrete representations of numbers. This set includes matching cards. For example, one card reads, “2.” The matching card has two large dots on it. Every student in class receives one card with either a number or dots. Students play Quiz-Quiz-Trade with their cards. The quizzing looks like this: Students put a hand up and find a partner. In the pair, one partner has the 2 card and asks, “What number is this? Can you draw this many dots?” The other partner responds. Then they quiz the other way. The other partner has a card with eight dots. He asks, “What number is this, and can you write the number?” His partner responds. Students trade cards and find a new partner to quiz. After many rounds of pairing and quizzing, the teacher asks students to hurry and find their partner with their matching card. The repeated quizzing with multiple classmates makes the content super memorable. Your students have so much fun that they barely realize they’re learning!
